Bella took a kickboxing class from Steven “Spyder” Hemphill, a three-time world kickboxing title holder who runs the G.O.W. Gym on Freret St. He’s been teaching for 40+ years, and it shows, as he informs, pushes, and comforts all at once. He’s a gentle giant who can still pack a mean punch, and is in fact preparing for his last professional fight.
Bella learned the six different punches and couple of kicks pretty quickly, but may have met her match in the double-end bag.
I just stumbled across this today. Spyder is my coach! He’s awesome. I highly recommend him to anyone in the New Orleans area looking to get into martial arts.
